PAWTUCKET – U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (RI-01) released the following statement after President Biden called for the Assault Weapons Ban during a White House speech this afternoon:

“Assault weapons, like the AR-15, have been the weapon of choice for so many of our nation’s most horrific shootings. These weapons of war serve no purpose in our communities or streets other than to commit such heinous acts of violence. I thank and applaud President Biden for his unwavering commitment to ending the scourge of gun violence and his support for banning the sale of these weapons through a new assault weapons ban, which I introduced earlier this month with Senator Feinstein.”
