House Passes Bill to Stop Bad Robocalls

Wednesday, December 4, 2019

WASHINGTON – In 2019 alone, Rhode Islanders have received 121 MILLION robocalls and more than 53 BILLION robocalls have been placed nationally. U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (RI-01) released the following statement following the passage of bipartisan, bicameral legislation to stop bad robocalls and protect Rhode Islanders from scammers, the Pallone-Thune TRACED Act (S. 151), in the House earlier today:

“Robocalls are not only annoying interruptions to our days. Many of them are nefarious attempts to scam people out of their money and confidential information. This comprehensive bill will finally require every call to be verified, empower the FCC to protect folks from scammers, and require that opt-in or opt-out robocall blocking be offered at no additional charge to consumers. I was proud to vote for this important legislation today, and I look forward to seeing the President sign it into law.”
