PAWTUCKET, RI – Today, Clean Water Action announced their endorsement of Congressman David N. Cicilline (RI-01) for re-election this November.

“Throughout his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Congressman Cicilline has worked tirelessly to ensure the protection of our state’s environment and stewardship of its natural resources,” said Johnathan Berard, Clean Water Action’s Rhode Island State Director. “At the national level, he is at the leading edge of efforts to comprehensively address the climate crisis, safeguard drinking and surface waters, and protect our vital marine resources. We look forward to working closely with him over the next two years to move the needle on these critical issues.”

During his time in Congress, Cicilline has fought to address climate change and protect Rhode Island’s air, water, and other natural resources.

Cicilline has helped secure tens of millions of dollars in federal funding for the Clean Water and Safe Drinking Water State Revolving Funds that provide low-interest loans for projects that help protect and enhance water quality in Rhode Island.

In Congress, David has also supported critical legislation such as the Climate Action Now Act, that would help combat the threat of climate change and would ensure the United States honors its commitments under the Paris Climate Agreement. Cicilline also led the New England Congressional Delegation in the House, introducing legislation to prohibit the expansion of oil and gas drilling off the coast of Rhode Island.

“I’m incredibly thankful to have the support of Clean Water Action,” said Cicilline. “Our natural resources, including clean air and water, have been under attack since President Trump took office. Organizations like Clean Water Action are absolutely critical in the fight against rollbacks of environmental protections and deregulation that threaten our environment and public health.”

Cicilline is seeking re-election to represent Rhode Island’s First Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. This year’s general election falls on Tuesday, November 3rd.

Clean Water Action has been fighting critical health and environmental protections since 1972.
