Cicilline Statement on Supreme Court Upholding Anti-LGBT Discrimination

Monday, June 4, 2018

PAWTUCKET - U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (RI-01), author of the Equality Act and co-chair of the LGBT Equality Caucus, issued the following statement today:

“Our country was founded on the idea that everyone is equal in the eyes of the law. There is no religious tradition that holds as a central tenet that you must deny goods or services to people based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. Unfortunately, the Supreme Court declined to consider these facts in their decision today.”

“In order to ensure full equality for LGBT individuals in our country, Congress needs to pass the Equality Act. Speaker Ryan should bring this bill to the floor for a vote and let members of Congress be judged by their constituents for where they stand.”
