Cicilline Statement on Supreme Court Protecting DACA

Thursday, June 18, 2020

WASHINGTON – Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC) Chair David N. Cicilline (RI-01) issued the following statement today after the United States Supreme Court blocked President Trump from ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

“I am pleased that the Supreme Court made the right decision today. Dreamers are American citizens in every sense of the word. They were brought here as children. The President and his allies claim they are a burden on our country. To the contrary, they make rich contributions to our society every day. They have earned Rhode scholarships, started businesses, and founded non-profits. America is their home. They know no other country than this one.”

“President Trump’s attempt to force their deportation from America was cruel and wrong. The only thing it would have accomplished would be to rip apart American families. It is a good thing that the Supreme Court stopped him in his tracks today. Now, Republicans should stop treating the Dreamers as political pawns and work with Democrats to fix our broken immigration system and provide a pathway to citizenship for the Dreamers.”
