Cicilline Statement on May Jobs Report

Friday, June 2, 2017

PAWTUCKET – U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (D-RI) issued the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released its jobs report for May:

“This report is disappointing on many levels. Manufacturing is down, wage growth is slowing, and the labor force is getting smaller. President Trump promised to be 'the greatest jobs producer that God ever created.' But less than five months into his term, his policies are already failing honest, hardworking Rhode Islanders.”

“The Trump administration has focused not on creating jobs, but on a narrow set of issues that appeal only to the Breitbart fringe of the Republican Party.”

“Wasting billions of dollars on an ineffective border wall will not strength our economy. Imposing a Muslim Ban will not strength our economy. Forcing millions of Americans to go without healthcare Will not strengthen our economy. Cutting Medicaid, Pell grants, the EPA, and funding for manufacturing jobs will not strengthen our economy.”

“President Trump needs to keep his promise to the American people. He needs to get to work creating jobs. Nothing is more important right now than ensuring honest, hard-working Rhode Islanders have an opportunity to get ahead.”
