Cicilline Statement on Impeachment Vote

Wednesday, December 18, 2019

WASHINGTON – Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC) Chair David N. Cicilline (RI-01) issued the following statement tonight after voting to impeach President Donald J. Trump for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress:

“There is no question that President Trump abused the enormous power of his office when he solicited foreign interference to help him in his re-election campaign in 2020. His conduct is a continued threat to our democracy and the national security of our country.”

“The facts are undisputed, and it is therefore our duty to our country and to the Constitution to hold this lawless President accountable.”

“I voted tonight to impeach President Donald J. Trump. If the members of the Senate set aside partisanship and consider the evidence in this case, it will leave them with only one conclusion – President Trump must be removed from office.”
