Cicilline Statement on Haspel Confirmation

Thursday, May 17, 2018

WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (RI-01), a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement today:

“It is shameful that the U.S. Senate approved Gina Haspel to serve as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. The use of torture under President George W. Bush is a dark chapter in the story of our great country. We cannot simply forget. We certainly should not reward those who, like Ms. Haspel, oversaw the use of torture and destroyed evidence to conceal this program.”
