Cicilline to Serve as Chairman of Judiciary Committee’s Antitrust Subcommittee

WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (RI-01), who last year concluded a comprehensive investigation into the state of competition in the digital marketplace, issued the following statement today after retaining the chairmanship of the Antitrust Subcommittee:

“For too long, powerful corporations with monopoly power have gotten their way while the rest of us get left behind. We’ve seen it in the tech and health care sectors. We see it in retail and transportation services. While a lucky few sit secure atop our economy, it’s getting harder and harder for everyone else just to compete.”

“Those days are over. The time has come for real reform that takes on monopoly power, restores competitive marketplaces, and puts the interests of consumers and working people first. Last year, the Antitrust Subcommittee conducted the most sweeping congressional antitrust investigation of its kind in a half century. I am delighted that I will have the opportunity to continue this work along with my outstanding colleagues on the subcommittee.”

“In the months ahead, I look forward to working with the President, his administration, and my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, especially Ranking Member Ken Buck, to identify solutions for the problems we face and end this monopoly moment in America.”
