EAST PROVIDENCE - U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (RI-01) has received the unanimous endorsement of the East Providence Democratic City Committee.
“Congressman Cicilline has been an outstanding advocate for East Providence and the State of Rhode Island,” said Chairman John Faria. “He works incredibly hard and makes sure that he and his office are always available to his constituents. The East Providence City Committee is proud to put our support behind him so he can continue to be a strong voice for working families and a champion for our communities.”
During his time in Congress, Cicilline has emerged as a leading voice for reinvigorating American manufacturing, enhancing job training and education opportunities, ensuring access to affordable health care, and securing the future of Medicare and Social Security. He has consistently delivered results for Rhode Island, securing more than $240 million in grants and appropriations since January 2017. Each year, Cicilline hosts a Senior Resources Fair at the East Providence Senior Center. He has helped deliver several grants to prevent crime, support first responders, expand access to affordable housing, and promote environmental cleanup efforts in East Providence.
Following the 2016 general election, the full House Democratic Caucus elected Cicilline to serve as Co-Chair of the Democratic Policy and Communication Committee (DPCC). In this role, as a member of the House Democratic Leadership, Cicilline gives Rhode Island its strongest voice in the House in at least a generation. Cicilline is the first Rhode Islander with a seat at the House Democratic Leadership table since Patrick J. Kennedy served as Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee from 1999 until 2001.
“I thank the East Providence Democratic City Committee for their support,” said Cicilline. “I’m proud to represent this community in Congress and to fight for good-paying jobs and job training, retirement security, and access to quality health care. Make no mistake - these are the issues on the ballot this November. When Democrats take back the House, we’re going to put an end to the Republicans’ billionaires-first agenda and get to work fixing the problems that working people are facing here in Rhode Island and across our great country.”
Cicilline is seeking re-election to represent Rhode Island’s First Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Democratic primary will take place Wednesday, September 12th. This year’s general election falls on Tuesday, November 6th.
The East Providence Democratic City Committee is devoted to fighting for the issues most important to working people in the third-largest city in Rhode Island’s First Congressional District. The Committee believes that the right to vote is a privilege and a constitutional right that all Rhode Island citizens should exercise during Primary and General Elections.
