Friday, August 29, 2014

PAWTUCKET, RI – Following the announcement that Howard G. Sutton will retire as publisher, president and chief executive officer of the Providence Journal, U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (D-RI) issued the following statement:

“Since first arriving at the Providence Journal over 40 years ago, Howard Sutton has worked tirelessly to uphold the reputation and standard of Rhode Island’s most important newspaper. As publisher, he led the Journal and its staff through difficult times upholding the paper’s legacy as America’s oldest continuously published daily newspaper and enriching the lives of countless Rhode Islanders through quality and dependable journalism on both local and national events. Howard has contributed significantly to many worthy causes and organizations. He has served on the board of Crossroads Rhode Island for more than decade and this organization established an endowment fund that bears his name. Howard and his wife Kim have made tremendous contributions to the civic life of our state. There’s no question Howard will remain a positive force in Rhode Island as he continues his work at the Providence Journal and as a civic leader, and I wish him well in his much deserved retirement.”
