Bristol Dems Endorse Cicilline’s Re-Election Bid

Monday, June 18, 2018

BRISTOL - U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (RI-01) has received the unanimous endorsement of the Bristol Democratic Town Committee.

"Congressman Cicilline has been a champion for Bristol, and all of Rhode Island, since he was elected. He understands the need to engage with people to increase participation in government. David is always there when we need him and we are proud to endorse him for re-election," said Bristol Democratic Town Committee Chairman Tony Rego.

During his time in Congress, Cicilline has emerged as a leading voice for reinvigorating American manufacturing, enhancing job training and education opportunities, ensuring access to affordable health care, and securing the future of Medicare and Social Security. He has consistently delivered results for Rhode Island, securing more than $240 million in grants and appropriations since January 2017. Cicilline has helped secure several grants for the Town of Bristol including over $523,000 for their fire department to hire additional personnel, $125,000 through the Economic Development Agency to support the local composite industry, over $1,169,000 through FEMA to complete the restoration of the west wall of the Prudence Island ferry dock, and $300,000 for the BristolPolice Department to purchase a marine patrol vessel.

Following the 2016 general election, the full House Democratic Caucus elected Cicilline to serve as Co-Chair of the Democratic Policy and Communication Committee (DPCC). In this role, as a member of the House Democratic Leadership, Cicilline gives Rhode Island its strongest voice in the House in at least a generation. Cicilline is the first Rhode Islander with a seat at the House Democratic Leadership table since Patrick J. Kennedy served as Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee from 1999 until 2001.

“I thank the Bristol Democratic Town Committee for their support,” said Cicilline. “The Committee is undertaking great initiatives to ensure that Bristol residents have access to quality education, small businesses have the support they need to thrive, and the town is prepared for the effects of climate change. I’m proud to fight for these shared values and to represent this great community.”

Cicilline is seeking re-election to represent Rhode Island’s First Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Democratic primary will take place Wednesday, September 12th. This year’s general election falls on Tuesday, November 6th.

The Bristol Democratic Town Committee is devoted to electing a government that works for all residents regardless of income, sexual orientation, race, religion, or gender. The committee is focused on electing individuals to government at all levels who are committed to improving the lives of Bristol residents, and enhancing their community, economy, and environment.
