Martin Luther King Jr. Day

01/16/2012

Today we honor the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr. His leadership made our country better, expanding basic human rights and opportunity for all. As we celebrate Dr. King's legacy, we should renew our commitment to protecting the dignity and freedom of all our citizens, remembering his famous phrase: “the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice."

Happy New Year!

01/01/2012

Today marks the first day of the New Year and I want to wish you and your family a good 2012, filled with peace, prosperity, and goodwill. I am looking forward to working hard for you and for Rhode Island in the coming year, hoping that pragmatism and commonsense prevail and 2012 proves to be a better year for the American people. Thank you for the opportunity to represent you and for your continued support.

Happy Thanksgiving!

11/24/2011

As we celebrate this Thanksgiving with friends and family, I am grateful for the tremendous honor I have in representing Rhode Island’s First District. It’s a job I take very seriously and I am thankful to have the opportunity to serve our great state.

Thanksgiving is a day to remember our many blessings and also to express gratitude for the sacrifices our troops and their families are making this holiday season to protect and defend our country. Let’s keep them in our thoughts and prayers.  We must also remember the thousands of Rhode Islanders that are struggling in this difficult economy.

So enjoy this great holiday. Enjoy some time with family, good food, and friends.  I’m looking forward to spending some time with family in Rhode Island before getting right back to work creating jobs and attracting investment and dollars to our state.

Cicilline Call

05/17/2011

It’s been a busy week in Washington as David has been working hard to deliver for Rhode Island families.  From demanding oil companies be held accountable, fighting to lower gas prices, pushing back against efforts to allow offshore drilling on our coastline, securing money to improve our infrastructure and create jobs, and sponsoring Make It in America Block Grant legislation, David has been working to make a meaningful difference for the First District.

Thank You for Your Service

11/11/2010

Today, we honor the service and sacrifice of our brave men and women in uniform.  For generations they’re risked their lives to keep us safe and free and it is important that we never forget the immeasurable debt we owe our servicemen and women. As a nation we pay fitting tribute to their sacrifices this Veterans Day.

ProJo on Americans for Common Sense Solutions

11/01/2010

In case you missed it, today's Providence Journal covered the DCCC's complaint against Americans for Common Sense Solutions for its false and misleading advertisements:

His roots run deep

10/18/2010

Wayne Miller profiles David in today's Providence Journal:

CENTRAL FALLS — Pizza awaits the four dozen people gathered on this late afternoon in the community room of Blackstone Falls, a federally funded housing complex for the elderly and disabled. But first, they will listen to David N. Cicilline, who wants their vote for Congress.

Taking On School Bullying

10/06/2010

After learning of the death of Raymond Chase, a Johnson and Wales sophomore who took his own life last week - the fifth suicide by a gay teenager in our country in only three weeks - I spoke with Providence Schools Superintendent Tom Brady regarding the anti-bullying initiatives that are currently being implemented in the Providence Public School District. After our discussion, I asked the Superintendent to determine whether there were additional efforts that the district could take to ensure that all students can attend school safe from bullying.

Field Director's Report from the First Day of GOTV

09/11/2010

As a field director, GOTV is my favorite part of campaigns – it’s when all the hard work of our staff, interns, volunteers and especially David pays off.  Our team spent the last 12 hours talking to voters who remember that handshake from David at a festival in Bristol, a knock on their door in Woonsocket from one of our interns, or a postcard sent from a trusted neighbor and the response overwhelmingly so far has been, “Oh thanks for the reminder, I will definitely be voting for David on Tuesday.”

Success in Providence

Today's Providence Journal featured an op-ed from Providence resident Lorne Adrain on the successes in Providence:

Brown Poll

08/06/2010

While we're pleased that today's Brown University poll shows that David's message is resonating across the First Congressional District, this campaign is about listening to voters and their concerns.

Equality

08/05/2010

I applaud the decision by U.S. District Court Judge Vaughn Walker striking down Proposition 8 as unconstitutional and recognizing that every human being is entitled to the same essential freedoms and basic dignity.  This decision marks another significant achievement for everyone in our country who cherishes freedom and equality.  And while the struggle continues, today we have come one step closer to full equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered persons.

Thanks so much to everyone who helped carry petitions for David over the past 10 days. Once again you showed the strength of our grassroots support!

Momentum

07/14/2010

Tuesday night’s debate made clear that David is the candidate with the strongest grassroots support and momentum heading into the final 9 weeks, as dozens of energetic volunteers braved the wind and rain to hold signs and show their enthusiastic support for our campaign.  David was cheered into the debate by our supporters where he showed a mastery of the issues and demonstrated exactly why he should be our next representative in Congress.

Now is the moment for President Obama to show us the way out of Afghanistan.

Wow- What An Amazing Day

06/07/2010

Wow.  That’s all I can say after David Cicilline’s campaign kickoff tour through the First District today.  In Woonsocket, Smithfield, East Providence, and Bristol, David rolled out his agenda to Create Jobs Now, Put People First, and Clean Up Congress.  The response was unbelievable.

Thanks to Joe Pantoliano and all of our supporters for a great event!

05/27/2010

On Wednesday night, it was great to see so many of David’s friends and supporters at our reception with actor Joe Pantoliano in East Providence.  Joe spoke of his struggles with depression and his appreciation of David’s support for mental health parity, an issue on which Congressman Kennedy has been an outstanding national leader.  This campaign is about who can deliver for our communities, and the amount of folks at our event last night who have been personally touched by David make it clear that he is the candidate best prepared to fight for us in Washington.

Barrington Democrats Endorse David Cicilline

05/20/2010

Cicilline for Congress is proud to announce the endorsement of the Barrington Democratic Town Committee, the fifth endorsement to date by a Democratic Committee in the First District. Their overwhelming vote in favor of David Cicilline's candidacy demonstrates confidence in his ability to deliver for Rhode Island and continue his record of producing real results.

Middletown Democratic Town Committee Endorses David Cicilline

05/04/2010

I am honored by the endorsement of the Middletown Democratic Town Committee.  It was great to have the opportunity to share my ideas on how to grow our economy and create jobs with the committee membership and I greatly appreciate their support.  Their confidence in my record of producing results and creating sustainable economic development is humbling and I look forward to going to Congress and working hard to improve the lives of Rhode Islanders.

East Side State and Local Elected Officials Endorse David Cicilline for Congress.

04/27/2010

Four East Side elected officials announced their support of Mayor David Cicilline’s campaign for Congress citing his proven ability to get things done for Rhode Island, and with full confidence that he is the person who will best deliver for Rhode Island in the Congress of the United States.  Representing a vast majority of the First-Congressional-District-part of Providence, Councilman Clifford Wood, Councilman Kevin Jackson, Representative Edith Ajello, and Senator Rhoda Perry joined together to enthusiastically endorse Cicilline’s candidacy.

Democratic Leaders Endorse Cicilline

04/07/2010

Just one day following the news of our campaign’s incredible fundraising performance, we received a key endorsement from the Association of Democratic City and Town Chairs.  Comprised of local Democratic Party leaders throughout the state, this organization leads the grass-roots Democratic efforts in Rhode Island’s cities and towns.   We are honored that these party leaders have endorsed our campaign.

Statement from Eric Hyers, Cicilline campaign manager

04/06/2010

It’s unfortunate that Mr. Lynch has attempted to use the hardships of flood victims for his own political  advantage.  The dedicated men and women of the Providence Police Department, Providence Fire Department, and Providence Emergency Management Agency have been working around the clock to ensure the safety of the residents who have been devastated by flood damage. To use this crisis to take pot shots at our public safety officials based on a radio report is reckless and irresponsible.

Great News

04/05/2010

In the six short weeks since I announced my candidacy for Congress, our campaign has raised over $725,000.  We exceeded all of our expectations, and the energy behind this campaign is incredible.  You have sent a message that you want a representative with a proven record of delivering results for hard-working Rhode Island families.

Projo Editorial: Municipal politics and finance

01/21/2010

Obviously, in these difficult times, the public must watch municipal budgets carefully. But in an election year, sometimes politicians make wild accusations. For instance, Providence City Councilor John Lombardi, who may run for mayor against the incumbent, David Cicilline, has charged that there have been inappropriate or unauthorized transfers of money between municipal accounts.
